There has been a lot of discussion and a desperate search to find the appropriate technological solutions for community groups wanting to set up a Community Radio Station (CRS). What we have seen so far are fabulous low cost ideas, which may or may not work effectively, or some really expensive options given by commercial companies. Obviously, the solution lies somewhere in between. At Nomad India we have been working hard for the past few years to develop our own configuration of transmission systems, suitable for Community Radio Stations of various sizes, reach and budgets. We have tried out various systems available in the international markets and also developed locally by Nomad activists. Today we feel confident and also excited about sharing our ideas with community groups wanting to start their own radio station. In one significant way Nomad transmitter designs are different from others being offered for Community Radio Stations in India. Nomad uses a one Watt drive to amplify the RF power at a final stage. Drive and Amplifiers are de-coupled to achieve higher flexibility for community groups to configure the system suitable to their requirement and budget. While the 1 Watt drive remains common, a community group can chose an amplifier to achieve either 25 W ERP or 50 W ERP or the maximum allowed by the Government --100 W ERP. A 25 W ERP system can be made for as low as Rs 45,000 while 50 W ERP will cost in the range Rs 60,000. The 100 W ERP system will cost around Rs 95,000. Nomad does not mass manufacture systems. We configure and make each system based on the requirement and conditions in which it will be operated. Please share your ideas on community radio and we will suggest the best system for you. |
